Where can I get help?

Going through a bullying situation is hard. It can make you feel scared, sad, anxious and most of all, alone. It is likely you are constantly asking yourself 'why me?'

But it doesn't have to be like this. There is someone who can help, and getting help is the first step in taking control of the situation and the start of things getting better.

It may be you have to talk to more than one person before you get the right help. Don't give up.

Talk to your parents, carers or someone in your family

Find a quiet time to talk to your parents, carers or a family member about what is happening. Tell them how long it has been going on, who has been involved and how it makes you feel. If you are very nervous, write it down or do a voice note, show them or message them, or ask a friend or family member to help you.

If you are worried about your parents and carers getting upset or angry, explain to them before you begin that you need them to be calm and listen to what you need from them.  While they may need to speak to the school, talk together about when and how to do this. Remember that they will have your best interests at heart; you just need to give them the chance to support you.

Talk to a teacher or someone in school you trust

The school can't help you if they don't know what's happening.  Talk to a teacher or someone in school you trust. It is the school's responsibility to keep you safe from bullying, so there will be procedures in place to support you.

Talk to a friend

Surrounding yourself with friends is one of the best ways to get through a bullying situation. If you already have a group of friends that can help you and you trust, that's great. Share with them what is happening and ask for their help.

Reach out to organisations that can help

It may be that you feel you have no one you can talk to. Remember you can always reach out to organisations like Childline or The Mix who offer advice and support.  Your parent or carer can also contact the Kidscape Parent Advice Line.
